Geotourism

Geotourism is a growing phenomenon worldwide in general and in Wales, the home of much early geology, in particular. There are plenty of old coal and copper mines, slate and stone quarries which can be visited all over Wales. There are also two ‘Geoparks’ in Wales, one in Anglesey and on in the western area of the Brecon Beacons national park (Fforest Fawr).
‘Rock Trails Snowdonia’ is a contribution to Welsh geotourism, providing an easy to read account of the geology and scenery of one of Wales’s most spectacular scenic gems, Snowdonia and its much-loved mountains: Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach, Tryfan, Carnedd Llewellyn and many others.
Geotourism is about involving tourism with the area being visited, expanding visitors’ understanding and appreciation of the area. That is the aim of this book. I hope you enjy reading it and then using it in the outdoors to get a grip on why the scenery looks like it does.
